Edinburgh Conference Centre

Edinburgh Conference Centre - Since opening in 1995, the £42m, 1200-capacity venue has hosted more than 1440 events and conferences In a report to the city council, the EICC was described as "one of the most financially successful conference centres in the world".

A spokeswoman for Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board said: "The EICC is an excellent product that has enabled Edinburgh Convention Bureau and the city of Edinburgh to improve vastly its success rate in winning international conferences.

"The good working relationship between the EICC and ECB is one of the reasons why Edinburgh is currently ranked ninth in the world for hosting international conferences and we hope to continue to build on that achievement in the future."

Edinburgh Convention Bureau is the business tourism division of Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board and is responsible for marketing and organising Edinburgh and the Lothians as a conference and event destination.

The council-owned EICC centre is set for expansion, with subterranean exhibition space likely to provide yet more facilities for conferences.

In addition, 20,000 square feet of extra floor space is to be created, incorporating flexible features such as a moveable floor and breakout rooms with moveable walls.

Councillor Andrew Scobbie, chairman of the EICC Board, said: "Myself and the board are again delighted with the performance of EICC.

"The team continues to set the standard in the global meetings market and their ability to generate a rising economic benefit for the people and businesses of Edinburgh is a tribute to their professionalism.

"We are particularly pleased this year to have steered EICC to an operating profit, which is an added bonus for the city and only rarely achieved by international conference venues."
